Overcoming barriers in neurosurgical teaching

Neurosurgery has a higher barrier of access for medical students due to its highly specialized nature. Medical universities struggle to give young residents and medical students time and resources necessary to gain early experience in the field of neurosurgery especially if the student is training in a low-or-middle-income country. The burden to seek out neurosurgical experience and knowledge has been placed on medical students. This burden can be alleviated through the utilization of technology.

The Center for Innovation, Research and Education provides cutting-edge virtual and physical training opportunities that were developed by experienced neurosurgeons with the goal to be incorporated into neurosurgical residency curriculum as well as increasing student access to neurosurgical education.
